A wonderful example of Thai design and hospitality

My wife and I stayed at Horizon Village at approximately the same time as 'Antipodean Expat' in the earlier posting, and we agree that the hotel and its grounds are quite beautiful. We disagree about the comments regarding the internet, however, and about the service. 500 baht, in fact, pays for a full week's use of the internet, and a person who loses his or her access card should simply check with the reception. They have a record, after all, of who has paid for what.

In late June and early July, Chiang Mai hotels were badly affected by the 'Red shirt' violence in Bangkok, and the 'Bangkok Post' reported that hotel occupancy in Chiang Mai was between 10% and 20%. As a result, Horizon Village was certainly very quiet, and the restaurant did close early in the evening. However, the staff regularly phoned to our room to ask whether we wanted to eat before they made the decision to close. What was striking about the management of the hotel was that the owners were present seven days a week to supervise the work of the staff and to check on the welfare of their guests. How often do you find that nowadays?

We shall be in Chiang Mai again next year and we look forward to enjoying the comfort and quiet of Horizon Village and its beautful botanical gardens.
